The Dreamcast Laser "POT":

Already said in the introduction page, I messed up badly, trying to help myself. Around Monday, late June when I found out that the laser on the dreamcast could be tweaked to play both GD-Roms (retail games) and CD-Roms (in terms of the Dreamcast was used mostly for backup or homebrew) I couldn't wait to open that baby up. I started installing the demo version of .......... and looking up cool ISOs of homebrew software.Though the reason I wanted to adjust it in the first place was for my Dreamcast to read a CD-Rom of a homebrew browser, that combined all three versions of the retail browser (since my brower disc 1.0 didn't work). The reason I needed the browser was to create an ISP and be able to get online in user made servers in games like Phantasy Star Online Ver.1 and Quake 3 Arena. So after I watched a super helpful tutorial, I went in to adjust a knob that was located on the laser unit called the "POT" heh pot. But anyway after opening, I noticed how damn small it was. Probably about one tenth of a dime. I got some tweezers and started struggling.A whole lot of frustration later, the knob broke off... just leaving the wheel attached to the unit. The whole time I was thinking, *oh snap I'm gonna mess it up, I'M GONNA BREAK IT!" Each time having to push the laser back to have enough slack, I worried about ruining the motor. I managed to twist the POT by the stubs left by the cap, ever so slightly adjusting it and testing it afterwards holding down the door button. I marked the starting spot with a marker for reference. The CD-Rom, depending on where the POT was turned either spinned slightly at first and as the laser adjusted, it would spin more and more but then giving the "please insert disc" error, or not spinning at all and just throwing me the error. After about 10 tries, I gave up for the day. I thought I'd try again in a couple days and let it sit, hoping for some change for the best.I'll check back in tonight, and all this text for a damn POT.
